Meta Tags are extremely important if
you want anyone to find your site. Why have a site if no one knows it
exists? Sure, you can post on newsgroups, tell your friends, and hope
that someday, somehow your site will become widely known. But it’s far
more efficient to insert a professional set of meta tags into your Web
pages and then list your site with several popular search engines. The
better your tags are, the more targeted your audience will be when
they perform searches.
You know what you hope to accomplish with your site – to write the
meta tags, you simply must sit down and put it into words. Put
yourself on the other side of your site and pretend that you are a Web
surfer doing a keyword search on Google or some other major search
engine – what words should they type to find your site? Those are the
words you should be using to draw in visitors.
It’s possible to use Meta Tags as ploys to boost your site traffic and
use popular but irrelevant search terms to stampede people to your
site. That’s generally a bad idea. Most Web surfers will get a little
annoyed by the diversion and quickly leave. You’ll lose potential
customer confidence and, at best, people will not take your site
seriously. You should also take your Online Marketing strategy
seriously. You can not afford for your website to be overlooked by the
majority of web viewers.
Instead, select very specific terms that directly relate to your site.
For example, if you’re selling golf clubs, use some brand names of
golf clubs in addition to the keywords "golf" and "club."
